The department provides rehabilitation services to acute inpatients, outpatients, Kindred Hospital New Jersey-Rahway - a long-term acute care hospital, Care Connection, the hospital's subacute unit, The Joint Replacement Center and the Balance Center.
When illness or injury limit your ability to move, perform daily activities or communicate, our experienced and licensed physical, occupational and speech/language therapists deliver skilled care with attention to your individual needs. A vital part of the rehabilitation process, Physical Therapy promotes the ability to move, reduces pain, restores function and prevents disability.
The staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway is frequently praised in Press Ganey and other surveys for their skill and ability to inspire patients to exceed their goals. Physical Therapy services, including aquatic therapy, also are available at RWJ Physical Therapy, located at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, 2120 Lamberts Mill Road, Scotch Plains.
In addition, the department provides specialty outpatient programs including Balance Testing and Vestibular Rehabiltation, and Urinary Incontinence, which includes biofeedback, electrical stimulation, and therapeutic exercise. Occupational Therapy assists patients to achieve the highest level of independence in activities of daily living for home, work and leisure. Experienced and licensed therapists provide hand therapy post injury or surgery and custom splinting. Occupational therapy is provided Monday-Friday for inpatients and outpatients from 7 am to 4:30 pm and on Saturday for Care Connection. Occupational therapy coordinator: Pamela Ferreira, OTR. Speech-Language Department: The Speech-Language Department offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient evaluations and treatments for those with communicative, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Specialty outpatient programs include Vital Stim for the treatment of dysphagia or difficulty speaking, myofunctional therapy for tongue thrust, and pediatric speech therapy. Speech Pathology services are provided Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Program Coordinator: Bervessa Morgan, SLP/CCC. To schedule an appointment, phone 732-499-6012. The Speech-Language Department serves preschool/school-aged children and individuals with acquired difficulty in speech, language, memory, cognition, and swallowing due to stroke, brain tumor, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and ALS.
Outpatient Physical therapy: Outpatient physical therapy is available Monday - Friday 7 am to 4:30 pm. Prescription is required. To schedule an appointment, phone 732-499-6012.
Physical Therapy is also available at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, Scotch Plains.
