Wellness Programs in November
National Diabetes Awareness Month

Rahway – In recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month in November, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is hosting two programs for people with diabetes. One is the popular Holiday Taste Testing and the other is a program focusing on wound care called Wound Care & You.

People with diabetes are vulnerable to hard-to-heal wounds because of circulation, verve and vascular problems. Nearly 7 percent of New Jersey adults have been diagnosed with diabetes.

The Holiday Taste Testing will be held Thursday, November 8 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway. This program focuses on delicious foods and recipes appropriate for people with diabetes. For more information or to register, call the Diabetes Self-Management Center at 732-499-6109.

Diabetes cooking classes, featuring Chef Nicole Brandenburg, RD, will be held November 6, 13, 20 and 27th. That program is open to non-fitness center members. It costs $10 per class.

As part of the RWJ Rahway Education Series, the hospital is sponsoring Wound Care & You, plus a free foot screening Wednesday, November 14th at 6 pm. The program will be held at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, located at 2120 Lamberts Mill Road, Scotch Plains.

People with diabetes are especially vulnerable to non-healing wounds. The foot screening will be performed by a podiatrist from The Wound Care Center at Robert Wood Rahway. The program is free and open to non-fitness center members. For more information or to register, call The Wound Care Center at 732-453-2915.
