Oncology Nurse Wins Hospital’s Highest Employee Award
For Imediate Release
RAHWAY – Oncology Nurse Charlene Vojnyk, RN, won Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway’s highest employee award for her outstanding service to patients.
The Port Monmouth resident was chosen the STAR of the Year from more than 800 nominations received from hospital patients, their families and co-workers. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway has more than 950 employees and nearly 400 physicians. The award is the fourth the hospital has given to an outstanding employee.
“I’ve always wanted to take care of people,” Vojnyk said after the award was announced. “It’s the only thing I ever wanted to do.” She has been a nurse with the hospital since 2003.
The comments from Vojnyk’s many patients are testimony to her passion for caring for people. Below are some excerpts:
“I have visited other people in other hospitals and have never seen this level of personal care. Charlene is exceptional. In other hospitals the nurses are professional, but strictly business. Charlene treated me as a person, not a patient,” one patient wrote of Ms. Vojnyk.
“You just can’t imagine how much she cares for her patients. She treated my family like gold,” wrote another.
STAR is an acronym for Special Treatment at Rahway. In addition to Ms. Vojnyk, the hospital selected the Hospice Department as its STAR department. The hospital’s Hospice program recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Vojnyk received a $1,000 check and diamond-studded star pin.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway is a member of the Robert Wood Johnson Health System.
