The Diabetes Self-Management Program Again Awarded Certification
Rahway – The Diabetes Self-Management Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway was again awarded certification by The American Diabetes Association, the nation’s leader in diabetes education, research and advocacy.
The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate assures that the hospital’s diabetes program meets national standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. These standards were developed and tested by the ADA’s national advisory board in 1983 and revised by the diabetes community in 1994, 2000 and 2007.
Programs apply voluntarily for recognition and those who achieve recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management. Education recognition status is awarded for four years. The hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Program was originally recognized by the ADA in 1998.
The Diabetes Self-Management Program offers individualized counseling sessions, group series classes and support group to help people with diabetes and pre-diabetes improve glucose control with an emphasis on nutrition, stress reduction, exercise, and medication.
