Robert Wood Johnson Rahway Ranks High in N.J. 2010 Performance Report
Rahway Outpaces Half of All State Hospitals in Key Recommended Care Measures
RAHWAY, N.J., Jan. 18, 2011 – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway announces it scored equal to or higher than state and national averages among New Jersey’s acute care hospitals for the majority of all recommended care measures related to heart attack, pneumonia, surgical care improvement and heart failure according to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services’ recently released 2010 Hospital Performance Report.
“The patients of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway have been the beneficiaries of the hospital’s high-quality care measures for many years,” explained Kirk Tice, president of RWJ Rahway.
Recommended care measures show how each hospital treats eligible patients with heart attack, pneumonia, surgical care improvement and heart failure by looking at the number of times a patient received correct care and converting that number to a percentage.
With the top 50 percent of New Jersey regional and county hospitals scoring 98, 96, 97 and 97 percent in each of the above categories, RWJ Rahway scored 99, 96, 98 and 93 percent respectively, outranking the top 50 percent of all hospitals in the state in the areas of heart attack and surgical care improvement.
Of the 328 statewide cases of Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSIs) reported in 2009, the New Jersey Hospital Performance Report found zero instances of CLABSIs at RWJR out of the 72 hospitals observed that year. CLABSIs occur when bacteria or other germs enter the blood. These infections are considered the deadliest and most costly to treat of all healthcare-associated infections.
“We’re extremely pleased by the efforts of the hospital staff to secure such high marks in this report. We also know that quality performance is an ongoing effort requiring continuous monitoring and attention,” noted Tice.
