Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway and its staff members respect patients’ values, beliefs and philosophies and strive to meet the spiritual needs of patients, staff and families. Through the Pastoral Care Liaison, Eucharistic Ministers, lay visitors, chaplains provided by particular faith communities, and community clergy, the hospital provides opportunities for individual and group worship, prayer and meditation, as well as individual pastoral visitation and counseling.
Our Roman Catholic patients are offered the Sacrament of the Eucharist on a daily basis, while Mass is celebrated every Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Conference Room #1. Protestant Christian worship services are held on Sunday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room #1. For our Jewish patients, staff, and families, the Kabbalat Shabbat service is observed every other Friday at 2:00 p.m., in Conference Room #3. Special observances and holidays are celebrated with traditional services throughout the year.
The Pastoral Care Department also oversees the Hospice Memorial Chapel, making it a welcome center for prayer and meditation on a 24-hour a day basis. Texts from various faith traditions are provided for reading and meditation, and tracts addressing critical events in the lives of patients, staff members, or families are supplied. Bibles, rosaries and other articles of fath are provided upon request, depending of availability.
For more information, contact Rev. Dr. William C. Weaver, Pastoral Care Liaison, at the Pastoral Care Office (732) 499-6049.
