The Pain Center at RWJUH Rahway is designed to provide innovative, interventional pain management and therapy to help patients who suffer from chronic pain.

The Pain Center at RWJUH Rahway treats problems such as chronic neck and lower back pain, sciatica, failed back surgery syndrome, intractable headache, trigeminal neuralgia, peripheral neuropathies, post-herpetic neuralgia, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, post-amputation pain, arthritis, cancer pain, sprain and musculoskeletal pain syndromes.

Board Certified Pain Medicine Specialist and Anesthesiologist Young K. Choi, MD, FACPM, heads the new pain management program at RWJUH Rahway. He is a founder of the New Jersey Pain Institute and has been a director of the pain fellowship program at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School . Dr. Choi has devoted the past 20 years to pain medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain and was recently chosen as ‘the best pain management doctor in New York and New Jersey ' by New York Magazine.

“Chronic pain can be complicated and difficult if not properly treated,” explains Dr. Choi. “With our comprehensive, innovative therapies, The Pain Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway has the ability to successfully treat many chronic pain patients who may even have been referred to us as a last resort.”

The center provides state-of-the-art interventional pain procedures including injection therapies with nerve blocks, fluoroscopic procedures, special nerve procedures using chemical, cryoanalgesia and radiofrequency techniques, and implantable procedures with spinal cord stimulation and spinal drug delivery systems. The new program also includes a unique, non-surgical scope technique for lower back pain, called Spinal Epiduroscopic Epiduroplasty (SEE), which was pioneered by Dr. Choi.
