Hospice

Just as a lighthouse offers a ray of hope during the peril of a storm, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway Hospice provides that same hope and guidance to those experiencing a storm in their lives and strives to gently lead them to a place of peace and tranquillity. Hospice affirms life. It is a comprehensive approach to the care of the dying which enables them to spend their last days at home in comfort and dignity. The patient and his family are the primary concern of Hospice and meeting their needs is the function of the Hospice team, which under the guidance of the personal physician, provides nurses, a social worker, a medical director, volunteers, a spiritual director and family bereavement care.

Criteria for Admission

  • Patients with any end stage illness who have a life-expectancy of less than 6 months.

  • Patients whose care goals are supportive and comfort-oriented.

  • Family acceptance of the Hospice concept and responsibility for the patient’s care.

  • Patients who reside in Union or Middlesex counties.

  • Patients are accepted regardless of age, race, creed, handicaps, national origin or ability to pay.

  • Patients can be referred to Hospice by physicians, the hospital, other agencies, families or the patients themselves.
