Good Food Fast: Healthy Cooking Demo for Union County First Responders
Scotch Plains – Paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, and police are so busy taking care of others, they often don’t have time to take care of themselves. That’s why Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway is inviting Union County first responders to a healthy cooking demonstration to show how to pack nutrition into their fast-paced lives.
“Emergency first responders often don’t have time to have a balanced, sit down meal,” said Terry McCarthy, director of clinical services at RWJ Rahway, which includes the mobile intensive care unit. “They eat on the run and tend to go for fast food that’s not always the healthiest choice.”
On August 9, Registered Dietitian Diane Weeks will demonstrate how to make quick, nutritious meals that can be eaten on the go. Ms. Weeks, who regularly conducts healthy cooking demonstrations at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, is a culinary school-trained chef.
The cooking demo includes samples, recipes and a free dinner. The program is open to Union County EMTs, paramedics, police and other first responders. It takes place at 7 pm at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, located at 2120 Lamberts Mill Road, Scotch Plains.
